KATHMANDU, March 8: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has achieved unprecedented success in the House of Representatives (HoR) elections across the country, achieving a 'clean sweep' in 13 districts.
While a total of six political parties have secured seats in the lower house of parliament for the next five years, the RSP made a clean sweep in all ten constituencies of the capital in the elections held on March 5. The party that won 4 out of 10 constituencies in Kathmandu in the 2022 elections now has won additional six constituencies. Likewise, the newly emerged party has also secured all three seats of Lalitpur district and two HoR seats of Bhaktapur district.
The RSP also secured a clean sweep in all three constituencies of Chitwan. Hari Dhakal won in Chitwan-1, party president Rabi Lamichhane in Chitwan-2, and Sobita Gautam in Chitwan-3. Gautam achieved a remarkable victory by defeating Former Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City Renu Dahal, daughter of former Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, by a wide margin.

The political party has also won three constituencies of Kaski district in Gandaki Province and five constituencies of Rupandehi district in Lumbini Province. It also achieved success in securing all five HoR seats of Kailali district and three seats of Kanchanpur district in Sudurpashchim Province.
All five constituencies of Jhapa district and two HoR seats each in Udayapur and Sidhuli districts in Koshi Province are also under the grip of the RSP. Similarly, the emerging party has secured a clean sweep in four constituencies each of Saptari and Parsa districts in Madhesh Province, as per the report of the Election Commission.
Meanwhile, the RSP is likely to secure a total of 125 seats in direct elections for the HoR as it has already secured victory in 124 constituencies.
Nepali Congress (NC) remains a distant second with 17 seats, followed by eight seats each secured by CPN-UML and Nepali Communist party (NCP) in seven, three by Shram Sanskriti Party three and one each by Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and an independent candidate.
Meanwhile, under proportional representation, a total of 7,320,888 votes have been counted nationwide so far. The RSP is leading with 3,697,742 votes (50.51 percent).
The NC is in second position with 1,248,639 votes (17.06 percent), while the UML is in third position with 1,058,291 votes (14.46 percent).
Other parties have also secured portions of the PR vote share. The NCP has received 543,951 votes (7.43 percent), followed by the RPP with 260,534 votes (3.56 percent). The Shram Sanskriti Party has secured 249,211 votes (3.40 percent), while the Rastriya Pariwartan Party has received 103,567 votes (1.41 percent). The Janamat Party has secured 47,379 votes (0.65 percent) and the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal 111,574 votes (1.52 percent) as the counting process continues.
