CHITWAN, Oct 31: At least 33 people were injured when two passenger buses and a truck collided at Tikauli Forest along the East–West Highway in Bharatpur Metropolitan City–9, Chitwan.
According to the Chitwan District Police Office, the accident occurred around 1 AM on Friday when a passenger bus (Pra 3-03-001 Kha 0123) en route to Kathmandu from Rautahat hit the rear of a truck (Na 6 Kha 813) that had stopped in front of it. Another bus (Ba Pra 03-001 Kha 3902) coming from Janakpur towards Kathmandu then rammed into the back of the first bus.
Among the injured are both bus drivers and passengers. Police said eight people sustained moderate injuries, while 25 others were slightly hurt. The injured are undergoing treatment at Chitwan Medical College, National City Hospital, and Bharatpur Hospital.
The injured passengers include residents of Dhanusha, Rautahat, Mahottari, and Udayapur districts, as well as several Indian nationals from Motihari.
Police have taken Krishna Mandal, 43, driver of the Ba Pra 03-001 Kha 3902 bus and a resident of Sahid Municipality–4, Dhanusha, into custody, while the truck driver is on the run.
Teams from the District Traffic Police Office, Tandi Area Police Office, and Gondrang Police Post were deployed to the site to facilitate rescue operations and manage traffic.
