KATHMANDU, May 5: A total of 52 children currently staying at the Radha Swami Satsang Byas facility will begin attending school from Tuesday.
On Monday, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s Education Department decided to enrol the children at Jan Bikash Secondary School in Ward No. 14 after consulting with both the students and their guardians to assess their interests and needs. The school is located within walking distance of the shelter.
Worth of stories
The children are among families relocated to the ashram after informal settlements along riverbanks in areas such as Thapathali, Gairigaun, and Sinamangal were cleared.
According to the metropolis, 203 individuals from 66 families are currently residing at the facility. This includes 62 men, 80 women—among them three postpartum mothers and two pregnant women—and 61 children (31 girls and 30 boys), including one person with a disability.
Of all children, 52 are of school-going age, while four have already appeared for the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) this year.
