JHAPA, Jan 3: Seven people, including a member of the flight crew, were injured in a Buddha Air aircraft accident that occurred at Bhadrapur Airport on Friday night at around 9:10 PM.
The ATR 72 aircraft of Buddha Air, operating with call sign 901 on the Kathmandu–Bhadrapur route, overshot the runway by about 300 meters toward the eastern side while landing and sank into grassy bushes and mud, according to preliminary information provided by Superintendent of Police Rajan Limbu of the District Police Office (DPO), Jhapa.

The aircraft was carrying 51 passengers, four crew members, and one aircraft engineer. Among them, co-pilot Sushant Shrestha, 24, of Lalitpur Metropolitan City–4, and six passengers sustained injuries.
The injured passengers have been identified as Sabin Jogi, 40, of Bhadrapur–10; Preshika Adhikari, 20, of Birtamod Municipality–7; Sumitra Jogi, 42, of Birtamod Municipality–1; Kamal Prasad Katuwal, 28, of Damak Municipality–1; Muna Ghatani, 40, of Kathmandu Metropolitan–16; and Priya Ghatani, 16, also of Kathmandu Metropolitan–16, police said.
The injured were immediately rescued by a Nepal Police team and taken to Om Sai Pathibhara Hospital in Bhadrapur for treatment. Co-pilot Shrestha, who sustained head and facial injuries, has been discharged after undergoing treatment at the hospital. The other six injured passengers have been discharged after receiving primary treatment, Superintendent Limbu said.
The aircraft had departed Kathmandu at 8:23 PM and met with the accident while landing at Bhadrapur Airport at around 9:10 PM.
Following the incident, a 70-member police rescue team led by Superintendent Limbu was deployed from the DPO, Jhapa. Police safely evacuated all passengers from the aircraft and transported the injured to the hospital.
