Cold wave claims three lives

KATHMANDU, Jan 4: Cold wave claimed three more lives in different parts of the country, Tuesday. A child died of cold in Mugu and many others are suffering from severe cold.



Normal life in Mugu has been hit hard due to snowfall in the northern belt of Mugu district. [break]



In Mahottari, 45-year-old Fulo Devi Mahara died of cold. She breathed last on her way to hospital after she started shivering due to cold at around 12 Tuesday afternoon. Fulo Devi suddenly suffered cold bouts after she returned home from farmland.



Likewise, Ram Bilas Paswan, 65, of Siraha municipality-7 died on Tuesday. Paswan was the peon at Siraha office of Rastriya Prajatantra Party. With this, the death toll from cold in Siraha district has reached three.



With the rise in cold in Makawanpur, typhoid fever broke in various Village Development Committees (VDCs) and Hetauda Municipality.



Daily 30-35 patients of typhoid visit Hetauda Hospital for treatment while 30 patients are being admitted and treated, according to the hospital source.



Infants, children and elderly people are mostly affected by typhoid in Makawanpur, informed Narsingh Maharjan of the hospital.



Normal life has remained affected in the tarai belt due to thick mist and cold wave. As a temperature drops drastically due to cold wave, very few vehicles are seen plying on roads in the district.



In several tarai districts, women, children and elderly people have been reeling under severe cold since Monday and many in Chandranigahapur, Garuda, district headquarters Gaur have been forced to stay indoors.
