MAKWANPUR, June 2: UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said on Sunday the ‘dilly-dallying’ by the Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML are mainly to blame for the delay in the announcement of Constituent Assembly elections.

Talking to local party leaders and cadres in Hetauda this morning, Dahal said the NC and UML have been reluctant to announce an election date fearing that they would lose seats in the upcoming elections. [break]

The facts that NC President Sushil Koirala, who currently heads the High Level Political Committee (HPLC), has been demanding Chairman of Interim Election Government Khil Raj Regmi’s resignation as chief justice and that he has been absent in recent HLPC meetings show the NC is not interested in the new polls, Dahal argued.

A few days ago, Dahal had urged Chairman Regmi to go ahead, without waiting for political consensus, and announce the election date. Dahal is in Hetaudal on his way to Kathmandu from Bara where he attended a function organized to welcome former government minister Sali Miyan Ansari to the Maoist party.
