KATHMANDU, April 30: A decisive meeting between the government and the Nepal Teachers' Association (NTA) is scheduled to take place today.
Following productive discussions held late into Monday and Tuesday nights, today’s meeting is expected to be a turning point. According to NTA Vice Chairperson Nanu Maya Parajuli, the talks are scheduled for 2 pm this afternoon.
Government and agitating teachers hold ‘decisive’ talks
In a meeting held this morning, the NTA decided to attend the talks and respond positively to the government’s proposal.
During Tuesday night’s meeting, the NTA submitted a nine-point proposal, which is scheduled to be discussed in today’s session. NTA leaders have indicated that if the Cabinet approves the 9-point proposal, they may revise the current form of their protest movement.
Following the Tuesday meeting, Education Minister Raghuji Pant stated that the discussions had been positive and were expected to reach a conclusion today.
The nine-point proposal includes issues such as salaries for school staff and ECD (Early Childhood Development) teachers, social security funds, hardship allowances, grade adjustments, hierarchical ranking, medical treatment subsidies for teachers in hospitals, salary adjustments for lower secondary and secondary teachers, matters related to school principals and concerns regarding relief teachers.
