Finance Minister failed to understand work related to health insurance: Pokharel

KATHMANDU, June 2: CPN (Maoist Center) lawmaker Giriraj Mani Pokharel has remarked that Finance Minister Janardan Sharma had failed to understand the works related to health insurance run by the government.



Speaking at a discussion on the budget for the coming fiscal year presented by the government in the House of Representatives on Thursday, Pokharel said that Finance Minister Sharma could not understand the work done by the government on health insurance.

He said that health insurance should not be given to a company as it is linked to social responsibility and not like the insurance schemes introduced by the private sector. 


Lawmaker Pokharel said that the idea of ​​giving health insurance to companies came from the concept of universal coverage. MP Pokharel said that the health insurance brought by the government did not come from the angle of profit and loss. He said that the issue of giving health insurance to the company is not compatible with the format built in association with the World Health Organization.


He said that it was related to the Ministry of Health but it seemed that they were trying to take it to the Ministry of Finance.
