PARIS, Sept 14: Finland has decided to join France's forward nuclear deterrence initiative, extending the measure to a country sharing a 1,340-kilometre-long border with Russia, the two countries said in a joint statement on Monday.
The move follows French President Emmanuel Macron's announcement in March that France could extend its nuclear deterrent to European allies, as the continent reassesses its security in the wake of US President Donald Trump's shake-up of NATO.

"A nuclear steering group will be set up in the coming months to begin implementing this cooperation," the statement said, bringing to 10 the number of European countries to have joined the French initiative.
