Four traffic police officers relieved of duty after assault video goes viral

KATHMANDU, April 23: The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has relieved four traffic police officers from their duties following the circulation of a video on social media showing them physically assaulting a civilian.


According to Superintendent of Police Deepak Giri, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, the incident took place on December 8 beneath the overhead bridge at Sundhara.

SP Giri said that the incident has drawn serious attention from authorities. The four officers involved have been removed from their posts at the Janasewa Traffic Police Division and called back to the office.


“We have taken serious note of the video published on social media and various news outlets. Preliminary investigations confirm that the incident occurred on December 8 in Sundhara. The officers involved have been relieved of their duties, and an internal investigation is underway,” he said.
