Today's meeting of the Finance Committee under the Legislature-Parliament discussed regarding formation of a separate ministry for the resettlement of the quake victims and reconstruction at the quake-hit areas or establishing a high-powered authority under the leadership of Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers or both.
The meeting also discussed on the different issues including distributing tarpaulin sheets and corrugated zinc sheets for the immediate temporary settlement to the people of quake-hit areas, increasing the fund of Rs 200 billion announced by the government for the reconstruction of the damaged physical infrastructures, awarding those who are involved in rescue and relief task day and night and taking action against those involved in black marketing.
On the occasion, lawmakers said that all government bodies and academies should not celebrate their anniversary, golden jubilee, among others this year by declaring the fiscal year 2072/73 BS as Disaster Year and the money saved from these celebrations should be deposited in the reconstruction fund.
They also stressed that the government should continue the rescue and relief operation in a transparent, fair and effective manner on the basis of one-door policy and the treatment to the injured at free of cost. The meeting was presided over by Committee Chair Prakash Jwala.
Discussion was also held to provide Rs 1.149 million equivalent to 15-day salary of 52 members of the Finance Committee to the quake victims. RSS
