KATHMANDU, March 4: Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, son of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has reportedly been elected as the country’s next Supreme Leader, NDTV World reported.
According to reports, he was chosen as Khamenei’s successor by Iran’s Assembly of Experts.

Reports also claimed that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who ruled Iran for 36 years, was killed in joint US-Israel airstrikes on February 28 while he was in his compound. His daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter were also reportedly killed in the strikes. His wife, Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, reportedly died later from injuries sustained during the attack, NDTV World reported.
Khamenei is expected to be buried in the holy city of Mashhad, and a large farewell ceremony will be held in Tehran, according to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, who announced the plan in a Telegram post. However, the date of the burial has not yet been disclosed, reports said.
Khamenei had not publicly designated a successor earlier. During the transition period, a three-member interim Leadership Council — comprising Ayatollah Alireza Arafi, President Masoud Pezeshkian, and Chief Justice Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei — reportedly assumed the responsibilities of the Supreme Leader until a successor was selected.
