“Sanu killed herself and the minor at around 10 pm Sunday night. We have yet to find out why did she take such harsh step,” said DSP Lokendra Bahadur Malla at the DPO.
He also said that the police have opened an inquest.
“I don´t know why did she kill herself and the little girl. We did not have any conflict,” said Hari Bahadur Chaudhary, husband of the deceased. He also said he had been out strolling in the village when the incident happened.
However, according to Sanu´s in-laws, she was always worried about the future of her daughter Sikha, who has congenital abnormality. Shikha could not move her neck. “She was worried over how to raise Shikha as her husband did not care about her and the child,” said Anita Chaudhary, Sanu´s mother-in-law.
Anita said she must have poisoned in fear of how to nurture the child in her own.
Jokhu Chaudhary, Sanu´s father father of Sanu said he saw his daughter and grand-daughter lying on the floor unconscious. “Sanu was banging her hand on the floor while Sikha was already motionless. Then I, immediately, tried to take Sanu to a hospital but she had become completely unconscious by then,” said Jokhu.
Jokhu, however, rushed them to Rapti Sub-regional Hospital in Ghorahi in the hope of saving them but to no avail.
During the autopsy on Sanu, she was found to be three months pregnant.
The police had reached the scene in the wee hours Monday. A few days ago, a woman had poisoned herself and her two minor sons to death in Satbariya VDC-6 of Deukhuri in the district.
