Nepal-Bangladesh Trade: imports reach Rs 3 billion, exports at Rs 270 million

Nepal imported goods worth Rs 2.97 billion from Bangladesh, while it exported goods worth Rs 276.85 million to the country in the first eight months of the current fiscal year.

BHADRAPUR (JHAPA), March 27: Nepal imported goods worth Rs 2.97 billion from Bangladesh, while it exported goods worth Rs 276.85 million to the country in the first eight months of the current fiscal year.



Subash Pandey, head of Nepal Transport and Warehouse Management Company Limited in Kakarbhitta, stated that raw jute worth Rs 1.6 billion was the highest import from Bangladesh.

Other imports included batteries, poultry feed supplements, cosmetics, hydrogen peroxide, jute yarn, electrical equipment, medicines, potatoes, paper, glass, and food and beverage products.


Nepal exported goods worth Rs 236.25 million from Kakarbhitta. During the review period, Nepal also exported herbs, household items, and animal feed to Bangladesh. Expressing concern over the trade imbalance, Pandey suggested that electricity exports could help balance the trade deficit.
