KATHMANDU, March 17: The Election Commission (EC) is set to distribute certificates to candidates elected under the proportional representation (PR) system on March 19, formally completing the election process.
According to Krishna Bahadur Raut, election officer for the PR system at the EC, the certificates will be handed over at 11:30 AM at the EC’s premises.
NA elected candidates receive certificates
The EC has already published the details of candidates selected by political parties and officially declared them elected. It has also asked PR-elected members of the House of Representatives (HoR) to submit their original citizenship certificate or national identity card along with two passport-sized photographs.
In the HoR election held on March 5, six political parties secured national party status. Under the PR system, the Rastriya Swatantra Party won 57 seats, the Nepali Congress secured 20, the CPN-UML obtained 16, the Nepali Communist Party won 9, the Shram Sanskriti Party secured 4, and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party also won 4 seats.
In the 275-member HoR, 165 members are elected through the first-past-the-post system, while 110 are elected through the PR system.
With the distribution of certificates to PR-elected candidates, the EC will bring this election process to a formal close.
