KATHMANDU, Dec 6: A teenage worker was injured after a gunman opened fire during an attempted robbery at a gold shop in Lamahi, Dang, on Saturday afternoon, police said.
The shooting occurred at Juntara Gold and Silver Shop located in Lamahi Municipality–5. According to police, the assailant fired a shot with the apparent intention of looting the shop. The bullet hit 18-year-old Deepak Sunar, a goldsmith working at the store.
Lamahi to set up snakebite treatment center
Sunar was immediately rushed to Lamahi Hospital for treatment and is reported to be in stable condition. Police confirmed that no gold was stolen during the incident.
The shooter fled the scene immediately after the attack and is currently at large. A search operation is underway, said Lamahi Area Police Office Chief Inspector Roshanraj Pandey.
Following the incident, District Police Chief Superintendent of Police Deepak Shrestha reached Lamahi for on-site inspection. He stated that the injured youth is related to the shop owner and confirmed that the motive behind the shooting was attempted robbery.
Further investigation into the incident is currently underway.
