PM announces construction of int’l football stadium with 50,000 capacity in Bhaktapur

Speaking at the inauguration of the ‘FIFA Football for Schools’ program organized by the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) at Dasharath Stadium on Thursday, PM Oli stated that the government is expediting the construction of sports infrastructure across the country.

KATHMANDU, July 31: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced that a new international stadium with a capacity of 50,000 spectators will be constructed in Suryabinayak, Bhaktapur.



Speaking at the inauguration of the ‘FIFA Football for Schools’ program organized by the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) at Dasharath Stadium on Thursday, PM Oli stated that the government is expediting the construction of sports infrastructure across the country.


“We will soon begin constructing a stadium in Suryabinayak Municipality of Bhaktapur that can accommodate 50,000 spectators,” PM Oli said.  “While Dasharath Stadium holds only 15,000, the upcoming stadium will more than triple that capacity.”

Addressing children present at the event, he said, “By the time you grow up and become athletes, the stadium accommodating 50,000 spectators will be ready.”


PM Oli noted the historical significance of Dasharath Stadium and assured that it will undergo proper maintenance while a much larger stadium is built. He also said that the construction of the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur is almost complete and will host matches in the upcoming cricket season.


According to him, new stadiums are also under construction in Pokhara, Surkhet, Dhangadhi, Jhapa, and Damak. “There will no longer be a shortage of stadiums or playing fields in Nepal,” he said, “We are moving forward with the aim of establishing Nepal as a gold medal-winning nation across all sports.”


He also announced the construction of training and indoor sports facilities, including infrastructure dedicated to the women’s volleyball team.


PM Oli concluded by thanking the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Sports Council and ANFA for organizing the event and wished for a bright future for the next generation of athletes.
