LALITPUR, July 3: Lalitpur Metropolitan Police has made a decision to take stringent action against repeat offenders.

People found guilty of breaching construction law, haphazard waste dumping, or noise pollution will first face action through the metropolitan police, while repeat offenders will face the music under the Public Offense Act.

The decision was made in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Lalitpur’s Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan, on Thursday.

According to Spokesperson of the metropolis Rudra Prasad Gautam, they made the decision to this effect after Lalitpur locals were found repeatedly disregarding the Metropolitan’s request to curb haphazard constructions.

As per the decision, the Metropolitan Police would now go through training and carry out frequent monitoring with equipments necessary to handle the offenders as deemed necessary.

Lalitpur Metropolitan Police have been focusing on land encroachment issues as majority of cases filed on June 19 were against the breach of building construction code. The Metropolitan office has a hold of land equivalent to 2,63,210 ropanis, but has been facing difficulty to keep track of the land, which they believe has resulted in many land encroachment instances.

Only a week ago, a team deployed from Metropolitan police reached the Karmanasha River to bring down a wall that was being built illegally. But, the team retrieved stating that the excavator had broken down.

Chief District Officer Raj Kumar Shrestha has pledged to provide security and legal support to the Metropolitan Police in their initiative.
