GAIGHAT, Sept 1: Police have arrested the principal of a boarding school in Udayapur on charges of raping his 14-year-old student inside the school premises. The accused, 47-year-old Yubaraj Shrestha of Kanchanjunga Tole in Belka Municipality-2, is the principal of Himshikhar Community English Boarding School.
According to the Udaypur District Police Office, the incident took place at around 10:45 PM on Saturday. The victim’s family filed a formal complaint on Sunday evening, following which a police team from the Area Police Office, Rampur Thoksila, took Shrestha into custody the same night. District Police Spokesperson DSP Kedarman Dong said that Shrestha has been placed in police custody at Rampur for further investigation.

The victim’s sister-in-law lodged the complaint at around 6:30 pm on Sunday, demanding legal action against the accused. Locals said there were initial attempts to cover up the incident, but as word spread, the case reached authorities. A local social leader alleged that efforts were made through political representatives to pressure the victim’s family into settling the case quietly, but public exposure eventually led to Shrestha’s arrest.
