Depot defeated Golden Gate 55-48 in the first semifinal match while VS Niketan struggled past Kaski 60-57. [break]
Depot lagged behind Golden Gate in the first quarter 11-14 but made a comeback in the second quarter 15-12 to level the game at 26-26 by half time. Depot were down in the third quarter 11-14 again. However, they outscored Golden Gate 18-8 in the last quarter to seal a 55-48 victory and secure a berth in the final.
Although Heman Rai scored 15 points for the winning team, it was Golden Gate´s Bikkram Dangol who scored the highest 26 points during the match.
In the second match, VS Niketan were behind Kaski in the first three quarters with the scores of 11-12, 12-16, 15-16. But VS Niketan made a spectacular recovery in the last quarter as they netted 22-13 against their opponents to lead the team to victory just by a narrow margin of three points as the overall score was 60-57.
Kaski´s Sanam Pun scored the highest 18 points.
Khwapring win school chess
KATHMANDU, Feb 27: Khwapring School won the title of the Inter-school Chess Tournament on Saturday winning two gold medals.
In the last round match, Sri Krishna Prajapati of Khwapring beat Himala Lama of Mahankal High School under senior boys´ section.
In girls´ category, Kabita Prajapati of Khwapring remained unbeaten to bag gold.
Under junior boys´ section, Roshan Paudel secured the first spot.
Altogether, 26 schools of Kathmandu Valley, including 17 girls, participated in the tournament which was organized by Sunder Memorial Trust.
