UML 11th General Convention: Vote counting to begin shortly, results expected within three hours

KATHMANDU, Dec 18: With voting for the new leadership of the 11th National General Convention of the CPN-UML concluded, preparations for vote counting are underway.



Speaking to journalists at the convention venue in Bhrikutimandap, Vice-Chair of the Central Election Commission Sanuraj Pokhrel said that while vote counting is scheduled to begin at 8 AM today, some time is needed to complete procedural formalities and reach consensus. “Once counting begins, results will be announced within three hours,” he said.

Out of a total of 2,263 delegates, 2,227 cast their ballots, while 36 were absent during the voting process.


Voting began at 9:30 AM on Wednesday for the party’s new leadership. For the voting process, 80 electronic voting machines were used.


Through the election, the party will elect one chairperson, five vice-chairpersons, one general secretary, three deputy general secretaries, nine secretaries, and 301 central committee members.


The main contest for the party chair is between incumbent chair KP Sharma Oli and Senior Vice-Chair Ishwar Pokhrel.
