Violence won't liberate Madhes: Gachchhadar

RAJBIRAJ, Dec 29: Deputy Prime Minister Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar said Wednesday that murder and violence will not liberate Madhes.



Speaking at the condolence ceremony of Hari Narayan Dev, who was gunned down in Rajbiraj by an armed group Tuesday night, Gachchhadar also urged armed groups to shun violence as it could destroy Madhes. [break]



Dev, the elder brother of Jitendra Dev, the general secretary of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (Democratic), was shot dead at 8 pm Tuesday while returning from his ancestral house located at Boriya-3 to his house in Rajbiraj. Dev was 60.



An engineer, Dev had taken retirement from service at Nepal Electricity Authority. Gachchhadar reached Rajbiraj soon after hearing about the murder of Dev and instructed local police and administrators to hunt down the murderers. Meanwhile, Saptari Chamber of Commerce and Industry shut down all industries on Wednesday to protest the murder.



Thousands, including Gachchhadar, Minister for Agriculture Mrigendra Singh Yadav, Minister for Tourism Sharad Singh Bhandari and locals participated in the funeral procession in Rajbiraj. Slain Dev was cremated at his ancestral village Boriya. The All Tarai Mukti Morcha (Pratik) group that operated in the Tarai has taken responsibility for the murder.
