Jaypal Singh, an Indian national and the owner of Kamana Medical, has been absconding since the abortion. Hailing from Sitarjung in India, Singh had been living in Nepal and running the medical since his marriage to Harina Madai five years ago. Madai is a certified medical assistant and, according to the locals, had been helping her husband to perform illegal abortions for a long time.
Inspector Bikram Bahadur Chand of the area police of Jhalari said that the police have been looking for Singh and informed that Madai too is on the run.
Though the government has allowed only government hospitals, Mary Stopes Centers and Family Planning Association Nepal to perform abortion, many private clinics in Mahendranagar perform illegal abortions disregarding this rule.
Making abortion socially acceptable
