Boxer seriously injured during bout

KATHMANDU, Jan 5: Boxer Raju Budhamagar was seriously injured during a boxing match held in Hetauda on Tuesday. A doctor from Bharatpur Medical College said that Budhamagar has subdural hematoma or clotting of blood in the brain.



Despite wearing a headguard, Budhamagar was seriously injured after Nabin Limbu of Dharan punched him in the head during their bout in the Inter-Metropolitan Boxing Tournament. Budhamagar was competing against Limbu in men´s 52 kg category.[break]



The tournament, recognized by Nepal Boxing Association, was organized by Hetauda Municipality on the occasion of Nepal Tourism Year 2011.



According to Dr Sumit KC of Bharatpur Medical College, the doctor involved in the boxer´s treatment, Budhamagar is in a critical condition and has been kept on ventilator.



According to boxer Deepak Maharjan, the bronze medalist of the 16th Asian Games (Asiad), who was present during the fight, Budhamagar was rushed to a local hospital of Hetauda after he became unconscious.



"We promptly took Budhamagar to a local hospital of Hetauda after he failed to regain consciousness but the doctors referred him to Bharatpur Hospital, so we took him there," Maharjan told our Chitwan correspondent Chandni Hamal.



Maharjan was in Hetauda to attend a function organized to felicitate him.
