GORKHA, July 14: With the monsoon becoming active in recent days, paddy plantation has gathered pace in Gorkha district. The District Agriculture Development Office said that 58 percent of the district's paddy plantation has been completed so far.
Paddy is expected to be cultivated on 10,500 hectares of land in the district this year.
Plantation completed in 50% of paddy fields in 14 districts
Information Officer Suman Bhattarai said that only 45 percent of paddy plantation had been completed by mid-July in the last fiscal year. If weather conditions remain favorable, plantation is expected to be completed within the next few days.
The Office has projected that paddy plantation will reach 95 percent in the district.
Major rice-producing areas in the district include Daraudi, Sirdiphant, Sheraphant, Jyadulphant, Tariphant, Darbungphant, and Borlangphant. Rice is also cultivated in the hilly and upper-hilly areas of the district, including Chumnubri in the northern region.
