100 parties apply for PR race during March 5 polls

Of the total 275 members of the HoR, 165 will be elected through the first-past-the-post system, while the remaining 110 will be elected through the PR system.

KATHMANDU, Dec 10: A total of 100 political parties have applied to the Election Commission (EC) for registration under the proportional representation (PR) system for the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) election scheduled for March 5.



According to the EC, these parties submitted their applications within the deadline set for PR registration. The EC had opened the registration window from December 7 to 9, during which 100 parties filed their applications.

Both parties seeking a joint election symbol and those opting for individual symbols have submitted their applications. The EC said the applications will be reviewed and approved by December 12.


As per the EC’s election calendar, parties must submit their closed lists for the PR system on December 28 and 29. After necessary verification, the preliminary PR list will be published on January 18. Objections and claims will then be reviewed, and the final list will be published on February 3.
