60,000 to attend launch of NTY 2011

KATHMANDU, Feb 17: The NTY 2011 is going to be launched at the Army Pavilion in Tundikhel by Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal where the peace torch will be brought from Lumbini, the birth place of Gautam Buddha, to mark the event on February 26.



According to the organizers who finalized the program for the annual event, people from all walks of life including business persons and cadres of political parties will be gathered from different parts of the main city. There will be at least 60,000 people in the inauguration ceremony of the NTY 2011, said Yogendra Shakya, National Coordinator for NTY 2011. [break]



The NTY 2011 campaign has made 8,000 national flags which will be waved during the rally. Different political parties have expressed strong commitment for the success of the tourism campaign, according to Hariman Lama, a tourism entrepreneur and member of NTY 2011 committee.



During the inaugural program, Nepal Scout and Nepal Police personnel will be deployed for the safety, security and crowd management. The ceremony and the whole campaign is focused to regain the country´s previous image hit hard by insurgency and royal massacre, according to Shakya.



Likewise, the government has said that Nepal will have international air connectivity through 32 international airlines by the beginning of 2011.



"This will help to welcome more and more tourists during NTY 2011," said Nagendra Prasad Ghimire, Secretary at Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, at a press meet organized to brief the media about the preparations for the launching of NTY 2011.



Currently, there are 25 international airliners operating their services to Nepal and they are serving around 2.2 million seats in a year. NTY 2011 has aimed to draw one million tourists to Nepal. Ghimire informed that the ministry has also sought applications from prospective domestic airlines to expand their international flights.



"We also want to strengthen the capacity of internal airlines within the country including Nepal Airlines Corporation," he added.
