KATHMANDU, July 27: The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection (DoCSCP) collected Rs 26.12 million in fines from 537 business firms found violating market and consumer protection laws in the last fiscal year.
According to the DoCSCP’s annual report, the firms were fined under the Consumer Protection Act, 2018, and its regulations during market monitoring and inspection drives.

The DoCSCP mobilized 965 inspection teams across the country and monitored 4,481 business outlets during the fiscal year. Of those inspected, only 115 firms were found to be fully compliant with legal requirements.
The DoCSCP received 980 complaints during FY 2025/26, of which 921 were resolved while 58 remained under process, according to the report.
Similarly, the DoCSCP received 320 complaints through the government’s ‘Hello Sarkar’ platform. Only 46 of those cases have been resolved, the report said.
