Court grants five-day remand for MP Maya Rai

The Kathmandu District Court has granted permission to keep Member of Parliament (MP) Maya Rai in custody for an additional five days for further investigation.

KATHMANDU, May 2: The Kathmandu District Court has granted permission to keep Member of Parliament (MP) Maya Rai in custody for an additional five days for further investigation.



On Friday, the court approved the police's request to extend her detention. Previously, the court had allowed the police to keep her in custody for three days.

Rai, a House of Representatives member from the Nepali Congress (NC), was arrested on April 26 from Budhanilkantha-10, Kapan area. She is accused of being involved in the embezzlement of funds from Swarnalaxmi Multipurpose Cooperative Limited based in Kalimati, Kathmandu.


The Kathmandu District Police Range has stated that a supplementary investigation will be conducted against her, and an investigation report will be submitted accordingly.
