KATHMANDU, March 29: The government has directed all online betting apps and associated websites to shut down within 24 hours, as part of its ongoing 100‑point governance reform programme.
Following this decision, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology issued a formal letter to the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) instructing service providers to block access to these platforms immediately.

NTA Spokesperson Min Prasad Aryal said, “Upon receiving the ministry’s directive yesterday (Saturday) afternoon, we instructed all internet and mobile service providers to close the identified platforms without delay and report back to the authority.”
According to the NTA, service providers have already begun implementing the shutdown, with 16 betting sites identified for immediate closure. The authority has emphasised its commitment to enforcing the government’s mandate and ensuring compliance across all platforms.
This move reflects the government’s broader efforts to regulate online gambling and curb associated risks for users in Nepal.
