KATHMANDU, Sept 13: The government has decided to provide monthly housing assistance to families affected by the Bhotekoshi flood until their permanent homes are rebuilt.
Under the decision, families of up to four members will receive Rs 15,000 per month. Families with more than four members will receive an additional Rs 2,000 per month for each additional member.
According to Communications Minister Dr Bikram Timilsina, the Cabinet meeting held last Thursday made the decision as part of efforts to prioritise relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction for flood-affected families.
The government said the allowance will help affected families cover rent and other essential housing expenses until permanent homes are constructed.

Families that do not wish to receive the cash housing allowance will instead have the option of receiving temporary accommodation arranged by the government until their permanent homes are completed.
Minister Timilsina said forms have already been sent to the concerned local governments to collect the necessary details and data required to provide the assistance.
