KATHMANDU, Aug 17: President Ram Chandra Paudel on Monday conferred the honorary rank of general of the Nepali Army on General Dhiraj Seth, chief of the army staff of the Indian Army, during a ceremony at Sheetal Niwas.
Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal, Chief Secretary Govinda Bahadur Karki, Nepali Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel, former army chiefs, government secretaries, Indian Ambassador to Nepal and defence attachés from friendly countriejs attended the ceremony.

Nepal and India have a longstanding tradition of conferring the honorary rank of general on each other’s army chiefs, reflecting the close ties between the two armies.
Earlier in the day, General Seth paid tribute to martyrs at the Army Pavilion in Tundikhel and received a guard of honour at the Army Headquarters. He also planted a sapling at the headquarters and handed over medical and defence-related equipment to the Nepali Army.
General Seth held an official meeting with General Sigdel to discuss matters of mutual interest and ways to further strengthen cooperation between the two armies.
Meanwhile, Komal Seth, president of the Indian Army Wives Welfare Association, met Nita Chhetri Sigdel, president of the Nepali Army Wives Association, and discussed the associations’ welfare activities.
General Sigdel is hosting a banquet for General Seth and the visiting delegation on Monday evening.
