KATHMANDU, Oct 3: The Nepali Congress is set to inaugurate its 15th General Convention at Tundikhel in Kathmandu on Sunday afternoon, with the party saying preparations for the event have been completed.

NC Spokesperson Devraj Chalise on Saturday described the convention as “historic,” as it comes after the second special general convention held from January 11 to 13, 2026.

According to Chalise, the convention is being held at the same Tundikhel where BP Koirala delivered his first public address after returning to Nepal from exile. It was also from the same location that Ganesh Man Singh announced the end of the autocratic regime following the success of the 1990 People's Movement.

Chalise said around 50,000 young people had taken up various responsibilities through the convention process. More than 7,000 general convention delegates are expected to participate.

The party said people below 35, democracy fighters, workers and professional groups, and Nepalis living abroad will be given an opportunity to be represented on the Central Working Committee (CWC) for the first time.

The party has adopted “New Congress, New Resolve” as the main slogan of the convention. Chalise said the discussion sessions would deliberate on the new resolve and prepare a roadmap for its implementation.

He said the convention would not be limited to selecting the party leadership but would also focus on connecting democracy with the younger generation, institutionalizing good governance and making young people optimistic about the future.

The party also said it would make BP Koirala's ideas an ideological foundation for the country's prosperity.

“The Nepali Congress will now connect BP Koirala from history to the future,” Chalise said.

Delegate registration begins

Delegates from across the country and abroad have started arriving in Kathmandu, according to the party. Registration began at the party's central office in Sanepa on Saturday.

Each delegate is required to pay Rs 3,500 for participation. The accommodation management committee has appointed coordinators from each constituency, district and province to manage accommodation and coordinate with delegates.

The party said accommodation-related information would be provided to delegates through WhatsApp, an AI number and SMS.

Reports to be discussed in three halls

Closed-door sessions will be held on Ashoj 19 and 20 following Sunday's inauguration. The party president, vice presidents, general secretary and treasurer will present separate reports during the sessions.

Delegates will be divided into groups based on geographical areas for discussions on the reports in three halls. Digital boards will be installed in each hall to allow participants to view and listen to the reports.

The Election Committee has scheduled nomination filing from 2 pm to 6 pm on Ashoj 19 at the National Assembly Hall. The committee said the election schedule could be revised if necessary.

Parking arrangements

Parking has been arranged at Bhrikutimandap, the National Assembly Hall and the Old Bus Park for private cars and motorcycles used by convention delegates.

The party said one lane of the Maitighar-Bhadrakali section would be used for parking large buses.

The Nepali Congress also said it would hold daily media briefings at the Media Center to provide regular updates on the convention.
