In the women´s U-55 kg category, the players who qualified for the quarterfinals are Sabita Shrestha and Prativa Majhi of Bagmati; Manisha Lama, Ritima Kingring and Yan Kumari Gahamagar of Narayani; Sita Rai of Karnali, Pramila Rai of Seti and Shanta Tamang of Dhaulagiri. Special Olympics to kick off in Chitwan
CHITWAN: The Seventh National Special Olympics for mentally challenged people is set to begin in Narayangadh, Chitwan on Monday with the slogan ´Let me succeed, if not possible then support my endeavors´. The three-day event is also a qualifier for the International Special Olympics to be held in Greece. The mentally challenged look like normal people but they cannot express their feelings, likes and emotions, said Dr Jyoti Sherchan, coordinator of the Special Olympics Nepal. Such events will be helpful in keeping them mentally active according to Sherchan.
Rahul XI win practice match
KATHMANDU: Nepali U-19 cricketers in a closed camp for upcoming ACC U-19 Elite Cup played a practice match on Friday. Rahul XI defeated Prithu XI by 41 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series. Rahul XI, electing to bat first, were all out for 214 runs in 46.5 overs at the TU Cricket Ground. Sagar Pun (43 runs), Naresh Budhayer (49 runs) and Rahul Bk (49 runs) were the major contributors for Rahul XI. Krishna Karki and Pradeep Ayree took three wickets each for Prithu XI. In the run chase, Prithu XI were all out for 173 runs in 46.5 overs. Mohammad Hasim scored 56 runs and Krishna Karki remained unbeaten at 36 runs for Prithu XI. Bibek Dali took five wickets while Bibek Chaudhary claimed two wickets to seal the victory for Rahul XI. The ACC U-19 Cup is scheduled to be held in Thailand from February 1 to 10.
Lalitpur book semifinal berth
KATHMANDU: Lalitpur booked the semifinal berth in the Madhyamanchal Regional Cricket Tournament organized by District Sports Development Committee, Mahottari as they pulled off a thrilling victory of 1 wicket over Bara on Friday. Bara were all out for 157 in 28.3 overs at Mahottari Cricket Ground. Kumar Thapa struck 61 runs while Surya Raj Paswan scored 35 runs for Bara. Thupten Lama and Prashanna Shakya claimed three wickets each for Lalitpur. In the run chase, Lalitpur met the target in 29.1 overs losing nine wickets. Shakya top-scored for Lalitpur with 37 runs while Sujan Maharjan added 31 run. Sameer Thapa and Sudeep Chaudhary put pressure on Lalitpur taking three wickets each but could not stop them from winning the match.
Dangol, Yadav in semis
KATHMANDU: Suraj Dangol and Bikas Yadav of the host Binayak English High School entered the semifinal of the Valley-wide U-15 Badminton Tournament on Wednesday. Dangol defeated Uddhab Prajapati from Advance School 21-17, 10-21, 21-14 while Yadav thrashed Bishav Basnet of Constellation School 21-12, 21-12 in straight sets. Likewise, Mingma Lama from Sewa Sadan School eased past Constellation´s Robin Giri 21-10, 21-8 to book semifinal spot while Sujan Bhandari of Jagat Mandir advanced to the last four after beating Prabhakar Timilsina of Universal School 21-10, 21-12.
Gyanu Baba on winning streak
KATHMANDU: Defending champions Gyanu Baba School extended their winning streak to sixth successive matches in the Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup Women´s Double League Volleyball on Friday. They defeated Workers Martyrs Memorial Club (WMMC) 25-16, 25-13. 25-18 in straight set to gather 18 points. They are on the heels of Nepal Police Club (NPC), trailing behind by one point, but also have a game in hand. In other matches of the day, NPC and New Diamond won their respective matches. NPC defeated Tops School 25-15, 23-25, 25-13, 25-15. Tops have 14 points. New Diamond fought back form a set down to register a 24-26, 25-23, 26-24, 25-22 win over MMC Kaski. Despite the victory, New Diamond have 10 points while MMC have 13.
Buokaido tourney begins
KATHMANDU: Suman Lama of Sindhupalchowk, Patrus Tamang of Dhading, Sujan Pakhrin of Kavre and Anish Pariyar of Humla entered the semifinal of men´s open category of the Fourth Budokaido Full Contact Karate Tournament on Friday. Likewise, Ambika Paudel, Ngima Lama, Jyoti Lama of Kathmandu and Mahalaxmi Nagarkoti of Tanahun reached semifinal in women´s open category of the tournament being held at Chapagaun, Lalitpur. The tournament organized by Chapagaun Budokaido branch will conclude Saturday.
