KATHMANDU, Aug 28: The United Arab Emirates has announced US$10 million in humanitarian assistance for Nepal as the country grapples with the aftermath of devastating floods and landslides that have killed hundreds and left many others missing.
The assistance was announced under the directives of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and will be channelled through the UAE Aid Agency as part of an urgent humanitarian response, according to the agency.

Teams from the UAE Aid Agency are working with local authorities and international organisations to deliver relief to communities affected by the disaster, including women, men and children, it said.
Dr Tareq Ahmed Al Amiri, Chairman of the UAE Aid Agency, said the UAE was committed to playing a leading role in global humanitarian responses and stressed the importance of international cooperation in dealing with natural disasters and humanitarian emergencies.
He called for stronger collective humanitarian efforts to provide timely relief and support to people and communities affected by such disasters.
