WhiteHouse girls enter final unbeaten

KATHMANDU, Jan 3: The girls´ team of Whitehouse entered the final of the Eighth Prime Cup Inter-college Basketball Tournament on Monday defeating Golden Gate 57-42. They also extended their unbeaten run in the tournament with the win. Sajani Tamang scored 26 points to steer Whitehouse to victory in the match held at Naya Bazar of Kirtipur.



Whitehouse took a 16-13 lead in the first quarter and held their lead throughout the match. They lead the other quarters 14-11, 13-8, 14-10 respectively.[break]

 

In another girls´ match, Niharika scored 14 points as Rato Bangala thrashed Orient 21-8 but they failed to qualify for the final as they could not earn enough points to secure the top two spots out of six teams.

In the boys´ category, the hosts Prime, Trinity, National Campus and Whitehouse secured semifinal berths winning their respective matches.



Siddhartha Maharjan scored 19 points for Prime as they beat Reliance 47-34. Prime made a good start in the first quarter, which turned out to be crucial in their victory as Reliance fought back immediately.



Prime were ahead 15-4 in the first quarter but were held 15-15 in the second. The hosts then took a narrow 9-6 lead in the third quarter. Reliance defeated Prime in the last quarter 9-8, but it was not sufficient for Reliance to secure victory.



Trinity humbled Morgan International 52-31. They won all four quarters 10-9, 18-9, 13-6, 11-7. Kunga Sherpa scored 20 points in Trinity´s victory.



In another match, National Campus had a narrow escape against Ace as they struggled in the last quarter to secure a 50-47 win. National trailed 6-7 in the first quarter but bounced back to take the second quarter 20-11. Ace turned the match back in their favor again with a 17-11 win in the third quarter. However, National squeezed past Ace 13-12 in the last quarter to secure victory. Manish Hamal topscored with 16 points for the winning team.



Likewise, Whitehouse ousted Golden Gate 43-33. Whitehouse led the first three quarters 9-5, 12-7, 18-10 but lost the last quarter 4-11. Biraj Rana contributed 16 points for Whitehouse.
