KATHMANDU, Sept 27: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has begun placing 2,500 traffic cones and 1,250 retractable bars on the roads for traffic management.
It aims to reduce road accidents and congestion through proper road channels, KMC informed.
The metropolis has initiated the task in collaboration with the metropolitan authority, the traffic police, and other relevant stakeholders.
KMC to form disaster management act implementation committee
According to Anukul Nidhi, expert at the KMC Urban Planning Commission, the procurement of materials was made possible only in 2081/82 due to various procedural challenges, though there was a plan for this in the fiscal year 2080/81.
KMC expects the placement of the materials to help manage traffic in the city significantly, it is said.
Nidhi said that the height of the traffic cones ranges from 900 to 1,000 mm. As the current cones are larger than those previously placed on the roads, they are expected to enforce discipline among drivers.
It is also expected to discourage motorbike riders from shifting the cones, Nidhi added.
