KATHMANDU, Nov 6: Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said the government cannot arrest Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa.

Asked about reports circulating throughout the day that the government might arrest Thapa, but no arrest had been made, Dahal expressed concern over the government's conduct.
“The government is clearly trying to go beyond the principles and spirit of the Constitution, democracy and republicanism. This is a matter of serious concern for the country and all its people. As for Gaganji, no one can arrest him,” he said.
Journalists also asked Dahal about the government's decision to remove Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki from office.
In response, he said he would not comment at this stage on whether the decision was justified. He noted that the matter had already reached the court and that the judiciary would decide on it.
“Did the government do the right thing by removing the IGP? That matter has now reached the court, and the court will have its say,” he said.
