KATHMANDU, Aug 25: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Ashika Tamang has said rape cases should not all be treated as the same type of offence, arguing that penalties should be determined based on the nature and severity of each case.
In a social media post on Tuesday, Tamang said an allegation of rape made by a wife against her husband cannot be placed on the same scale as the rape of a three-year-old girl.

“The rape allegation made by a wife against her husband and the rape of a three-year-old girl can never be weighed on the same scale,” she said.
Tamang argued that the law should provide for different penalties based on the nature of the offence, the condition of the victim and the brutality involved.
She called for the law to be amended immediately to classify rape offences according to their nature and prescribe penalties accordingly.
