KASKI, July 10: The 22-megawatt Seti Khola Hydropower Project has commenced electricity generation in Pokhara Metropolitan City–33, Kaski. Developed by Seti Khola Hydropower Limited, construction of the project began in November 2021.
Electricity from the facility is now being supplied to the national transmission grid on a trial basis following inspection and testing by a technical team from the Nepal Electricity Authority, according to company director Deepak Baral.
Baral said the project will remain under trial operation for 15 days before entering regular commercial generation. During this period, electricity will continue to be fed into the grid while equipment undergoes technical testing.
11 bridges built, 2 under-construction on Pokhara-Muglin road
The project had initially targeted power generation last November, but completion was delayed due to prolonged approval processes for the use of forest land required to construct the transmission line. Three of the five transmission towers are located within forest areas, and securing clearance took longer than expected.
The dam has been built at Tiklang in Pokhara–33, with water diverted to the powerhouse at Tallopunditar through a 3,106-meter tunnel. The powerhouse is equipped with two turbines, each with an installed capacity of 11 MW.
Developed at a cost of Rs 5.05 billion, the company plans to issue an initial public offering (IPO) to the general public in the next fiscal year once commercial operations begin.
Several hydropower projects are under development along the Seti River. The 25-MW Seti River Hydropower Project, promoted by Vision Lumbini Energy Company, has been in commercial operation since last year. Around half a dozen additional projects are in early stages of development, while several more are under construction.
